The new gourmet greens are to die for—
baby lettuces of every crimp and hue,
a chiffonade of spinach, watercress, radicchio.
Edible weeds jazz up the mix—slivers of
dandelion, coltsfoot, sheep sorrel.
A buffet of cruditès? Yes please!
Nothing haute about this cuisine. It’s oh
so nouvelle—farm fresh, locally grown,
organic, sustainable.
Feast on a banquet of broccoli,
green beans galore, bell peppers
sprinkled with garnishes of parsley.
Top off this epicurean frolic with fistfuls
of flowers—pansies, petunias, phlox.
Perhaps a strawberry or two—ooh la la!
The proprietors may hiss, but really!
They offer the epitome of hospitality.
